The Society of Chemical Manufacturers & Affiliates (SOCMA) is offering two ChemTrends sessions – one on the Intersection of Economics and Politics and another on Hot Topics with Industry Trade Press – at it 97th – and final – Annual Dinner & Meeting on December 10 at the Crowne Plaza Times Square Manhattan in New York.
Highlighting this year’s ChemTrends sessions will be a fireside chat with Stephen Moore, an American writer and economic policy analyst – a frequent contributor to CNN, and Peter Tanous, noted author and Founder and Chairman of Lynx Investment Advisory. Moore and Tanous will analyze the political and economic forecast moving into 2019, with an eye on issues relevant to specialty chemical manufacturers, such as trade policy uncertainties, tax reform, health care and transportation costs, and the outlook of the electoral landscape.
The second ChemTrends session features editors from C&EN, Chemical Week, ICIS and Speciality Chemicals Magazine. These journalists are on the frontline, providing insight and analysis on issues that affect business operations, keeping companies informed on the goings-on within the regulatory agencies, fluctuations with raw material availability, and potential trade disruption due to impending tariffs.
“In a dynamic sector like specialty chemicals, sharing intelligence and providing a hub for our members to make business connections is critical to our industry’s success,” said Jennifer Abril, SOCMA President and CEO. “That’s why, we are augmenting our traditional dinner with two outstanding ChemTrends sessions for guests to take away new insights on issues impacting their businesses. There will also be numerous opportunities to renew friendships and connect with colleagues, including a new lounge and coffee bar, where we will display memorabilia and reminisce about our time in New York.”
SOCMA will honor current and former members of its Board of Governors during a VIP reception. Attendees are also invited to a pre-dinner reception, followed by an awards dinner that will recognize SOCMA’s Performance Improvement Award winners, Distinguished Service Award recipient, and the American Chemical Society Scholar.
“For 97 years, SOCMA has called New York its home for this historic annual event. However, the specialty and fine chemical industry is evolving, and SOCMA is mirroring this transformation,” Abril said. “Having heard from our members and observed these changes, we understand that New York is not the only place the industry is conducting business.
